7/12/2012 Darling Of The Day / Basics For A Bargain: Anne Hathaway’s Cropped ‘Do, LBDs, & Audrey Hepburn Inspiration!

Anne Hathaway has hit the red carpet with a reinvented classic retro vibe, cad with her pixie cut (for Les Miserables), little black dresses, basic black shoes, & elegance pendant necklaces.  The Oscar-nominee is in full swing promoting her latest film, the major summer blockbuster The Dark Knight Rises. The Style Darling‘s looks are elegant, contemporary, youthful, & worth making her the Darling of the Day.

Since I couldn’t pick just one look that I loved, I decided to share the four most recent images of her Audrey Hepburn-inspired style.  Her short ‘do is perfectly understated while these leg-baring frocks reveal that the actress isn’t slowing down her glamour game just yet.  Included in these images are dresses by Dolce & Gabbana, Stella McCartney, & Givenchy, paired with Tory Burch ankle strap sandals.

Since there are so many fabulous details in the dresses above, I’ve found some affordable LBDs to help recreate Anne’s breathtaking noir turn.  First from Forever 21, we have the shawl collar surplice dress ($27.80) & the mesh yoke bodycon dress ($24.80), which is available in sizes XL – 3X. H&M has this belted dress ($34.95) which moves beautifully & can be dressed up with peep toes or worn casually with flats.  To show off your shape, I recommend the ponte knit sheath dress ($48.93) from Express.  If you’re looking to imitate the feel of Anne’s forth look above, head over to Lulu’s for the Motown black dress ($38.00). Lastly, since we are talking about one of the most sought after actresses in all the land, we need to step up our style game just a little & share the Jessica Howard sequin cap sleeve dress ($70.00) @JCP

Lastly, to help complete the look, I’ve searched high & low for some of the best accessories. This includes the Forever 21 oval locket necklace ($5.80) & floral pendant necklace ($1.50).  In addition, my shoe choices include the Brash Gemini flat ($26.99) from Payless (which I’ve previously featured in champagne), Charlotte Russe‘s fabric mouse ballet flat ($30.00), sueded ankle wrap pump ($35.50), & Michael Antonio Loveme patent pump ($40.00) @Zappos.

Which of Anne’s looks do you like the best? Would you ever rock a pixie cut? How do you feel about all the black-on-black? All comments & suggestions are always welcome, so please share! Watch This Style / Fashion Flashback: Blake Lively Takes On Marilyn Monroe In This Week’s Gossip Girl!

During this week’s episode of Gossip Girl, the show celebrated its 100th episode of upper East side luxury with a tribute to Marilyn Monroe‘s famous song “Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend.”  Serena, played by Blake Lively, starred in her own dream sequence, recreating the dance number, featuring the male cast, as well as a cameo from Blair herself, played by Leighton Meester, paying tribute to the more demure & classic style icon, Audrey Hepburn.  It took a few days for me to finally find a video of the scene, but I have it here for my Style Darlings.  Also, if you’d like to compare it to the original, there’s also video of Marilyn’s version, something every gal should see! Red Carpet Review: Jennifer Aniston’s Little Black Dress Looks!

Jennifer Aniston is America’s Sweetheart- without a doubt. She’s filling the style ranks as a modern-day Audrey Hepburn (in her own way- of course nothing can truly compare to Miss Audrey)!  Jennifer is all about being comfortable & sexy, always complimenting her very fit figure, however she never looks overdone or as though someone else dressed her.  She makes the little black dress her own in every way possible, adding black tights for the cooler months, sticking to ultra strappy sandals, & always showing off some serious toe cleavage.  I watched a recent episode of Fashion Police on E! & Jennifer was being criticized for wearing yet another LBD to an appearance on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, but I think it suits her, especially looking so ridiculously effortless & hot in them.  She really puts twenty-somethings who don’t own their sense of style to shame.

These seven images capture Jennifer at various events over the last few years,  but most recently while she’s promoting her endless slew of rom-coms & other films.  Starting from left to right, here we go: First the former Friends star dons a flirty shoulder-embellished Nina Ricci frock for the February premiere of Just Go With It in Berlin.  Next she wears a structured black 3/4 sleeve dress with black tights again for another winter appearance, but this time at The Early Show.  Both of these looks are super easy to pull off & it really seems like she’s wearing the same shoes & tights.  Here’s a tip straight from the actress herself, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

The third image is from a 2004 luncheon in Los Angeles & she’s wearing a ruffled Moschino wrap dress & super skinny stapped sandals.  This is very figure-flattering & the thin straps on the heels don’t cover up her feet, thus helping elongate her legline.  At a 2006 event, she chose a metallic Calvin Klein dress with a little fringe detail at the bottom & plenty of decolletage to go around.  However it does look like she’s just thrown on yet another easy LBD & looks super comfortable in it, continuing with her skinny strappy sandal rule.

While promoting The Switch last summer, Jennifer went with a dolman style mini dress, layered necklaces, & peep toe pumps. This style of dress is very easy to wear, especially if there are parts that you wanna cover up, but really, do you think she’s got anything to hide?  At the Madrid premiere of The Bounty Hunter, she returned back to black metallics in strapless Valentino number & seriously bondage-looking heels.  The frilly look of the mini dress vs. the edge of the shoes is a surprising combination on her, but it totally works!

At the recent premiere of Horrible Bosses in Los Angeles, she chose a Balenciaga mini dress with her signature style of sandals by Versace & accessorized with Fred Leighton jewelry & a clutch by Salvatore Ferragamo.  Lastly, the alleged crime of LBDs (only b/c Joan Rivers is so sick of talking about it- I personally think it’s adorable), Jennifer returned to Nina Ricci in this feminine, floral LBD & cute accented peep toe pumps.  For the afternoon appearance at The Daily Show, she looks polished, professional, & like a lady, saving the sexy side for night.

Here we have some great little black dress suggestions, available at New York & Company, Macy’s, Victoria’s Secret, Lulu’s, Forever 21, Avenue, EDressMe, & Express!  Happy Styling!

Style ABC’s (x3): A is for Audrey Hepburn, American Idol, & Ann Taylor!

is for Audrey Hepburn, one of the most beautiful women to have ever graced the big screen, & an obvious choice to start out Style ABC’s blog series.  The star of Breakfast at Tiffany’s & Roman Holiday effortlessly changed the way we perceived Hollywood style & glamour into minimalist chic. She created the timeless LBD look & has inspired celebrities today, like Natalie Portman, Victoria Beckham, & Penelope Cruz, to follow in her very prestigious footsteps. For more dish on Audrey’s signature style, check out Steal Their Style, Allure, In Style, & Look Book Fashion! Some additional Audrey-inspired looks include Ellen Page, Bridget Moynahan, Julia Ormond, & Scarlett Johansson!

On American Idol, Jennifer Lopez  has stormed the small screen in every appearance!  Not only are audiences watching to see the competition, but I know half of why I’m watching is to see what the multi-talented fashion icon is wearing!  She sports uber-feminine ruffles, throwback scarves, glamour girl bombshell sparkles, modern minimalism, & 80′s chic all in a matter of a few weeks.  Especially after Jennifer’s recent appearance at this year’s Grammy’s, she’s proved that she still a fabulous force to be reckoned with! Stayed tuned for American Idol every Tuesday & Wednesday night on FOX for more lessons on style!

Ann Taylor is a classy brand name that mixes soft with chic in a very wearable way.  Celebrities like Heidi Klum, Naomi Watts, Milla Jovovich, & currently Katie Holmes star in the ad campaigns for this brand, which has branches for a more youthful demographic in LOFT, as well as a super stylish maternity line.  The clothing ranges from wedding to cocktail to work to everyday with ease & elegance.
